Put Me In Coach
An extremely cost-effective way to kick start your organizing journey is to hire an organizing coach. You’re pretty sure you can physically do the work. You’re just a little unsure if you have the mental stamina to stay on your path. You may be entirely willing and able to do the work, but you’re spending all of your time worrying about where to start and exactly what needs to be done.
A coach can help you with all those issues. It’s exactly like hiring a piano teacher. You could teach yourself. It is just going to take more time and you might develop some bad habits that have to be unlearned.
Swim Coach or Lifeguard?
There is also the energy boost you get from talking to a person that has been there done that. You don’t have to hire a swim instructor, but if you drown, you’re going to be the poster child for “penny wise, pound foolish.”
Modern technology has made organizing universally available. Video conferencing allows an organizer in Wyoming to talk to clients in New Jersey as easily as they can talk to their cows. The technology is essentially free. Almost everyone already has the necessary equipment. The cost is massively reduced for the professional organizer. They don’t incur any travel expenses to assess your project, prepare a bid, and execute the project. Most coaches even offer a “free consultation.” Use that half-hour or fifteen minutes to get things rolling.
Coaching by Video
The tele-organizing conference can be accomplished with as few sessions or as many as you want and need. At its most basic level the coach talks you through the process for an hour while you walk through your house showing video of your organizing opportunities. In one hour, you can develop a basic plan, discuss alternative storage solutions, get a stirring pep talk, and a large dose of encouragement.
That may be enough to launch you into space. Space planning.
With three sessions of an hour each, you can establish a plan, assess progress or course correct in the middle, and then top it off with some final optimization suggestions and a long-term care plan as the final, happy, session.
Put me in Coach
If you’re willing and able to do the heavy lifting, you can save a sizeable amount of money on your organizing endeavors. By the same token, if you can afford it, don’t skimp on investing in yourself. A professional organizer can not only free up your home. They can also free up that precious time you want to spend with friends or family.
Put me in coach. Just give me the right play. I’ll do the rest.
